Professor Kao completed her second trip to the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany as part of an international group of American, European, and Chinese (Taiwanese, Hong Konger, and mainland Chinese) scholars using the work of Karl Barth to discuss theo-politics. The symposium was generously funded by the Volkswagen Stiftung.

She gave a paper entitled “Reexamining Recent Male Circumcision Controversies Through the Lens of Modern Christian Debates on Infant Baptism” over an Oct 16-19 conference.

This was the third gathering; previous meetings were held March 13-16, 2014 and June 6-9, 2013. Jun 6-9, 2014.

All essays have been published in the book below. Her chapter discusses several male circumcision controversies in the early 2010s in the U.S. and Germany and responds to them theologically by engaging the work of Karl Barth on infant baptism. Click here to read/download it.
