Dr. Kao was faculty at Virginia Tech when a shooting tragedy occurred on April 16, 2007 claiming 33 lives. She was invited to deliver a presentation at Claremont School of Theology and spoke about the role religion played in the search for meaning.
Her reflections were later published in a volume entitled From Jeremiad to Jihad: Religion, Violence, and America, which you can read here.
