Dr. Kao was invited to speak at George Washington University about her reflections as a former Virginia Tech member when a shooter killed 32 fellow students and faculty before taking his own life.
Her reflections on jeremiads, manifestos, and civil religion were later published in a volume entitled From Jeremiad to Jihad: Religion, Violence, and America, which you can read here.
